Amid Evil is a retro first person shooter game developed by Indefatigable and published by New Blood Interactive. The game received extremely positive reviews and it was proclaimed as the spiritual successor to Heretic and Hexen.
The game was released on Steam Early Access on March 12, 2018, with first three episodes available to play. A year later it went out of early access, on June 20, 2019, along with the rest of the seven episodes.
Plot summary
Thousands of years ago, the Evil Force came and conquered the Sacred Lands. The protagonist known as the Champion, who passed the trials of the Black Labyrinth and won the rights to carry the Axe of the Black Labyrinth, was tasked by the Ancients to save their worlds from evil and put an end to its reign of terror.

The Black Labyrinth
The Black Labyrinth is a prequel expansion to the base game. It was released on August 18th, 2023, with very positive reception.

Ancient Alphas
Ancient Alphas is a free DLC that was released on November 21st, 2019. It contains 5 early builds of the base game made throughout 2016-2017 years.

Amid Evil VR
Amid Evil VR is a virtual reality port of the base game. It was teased in a short clip on June 17th, 2021 and was released on April 20th, 2023. It's a standalone app available for purchase on digital stores and doesn't require base game to work.
Facts & trivia
- While the game is often being compared to Hexen and Heretic, there were more games that inspired it, such as Quake, Gods, Amulets and Armor, Shadowcaster, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Anachronox.[1]
